EXPERIENCE
Bromberg & Associates is proud
to present a new educational initiative for Michigan Interpreters and
Translators, as well as bilingual individuals, aspiring to become language
industry professionals - Monthly Mentoring Meetings.
Each Monthly Mentoring Meeting will
examine a different subject of interpreting and translation. Veteran linguists
will be moderating interactive discussions on varying topics and helping
participants find answers to theoretical and practical questions. On a
quarterly basis, a guest speaker from a field interpreters and translators work
in regularly (legal, health care, government, automotive, etc.) will be sharing
his/her expertise with the participants.
The second Monthly Mentoring Meeting
is scheduled on March 28, 2008 at
the Automation Alley Headquarters (2675 Bellingham Drive, Troy, MI 48083) from
2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Topics
for discussion:
- How to fulfill four roles of
the medical interpreter: conduit, clarifier, cultural broker, and patient
advocate
- Challenges of medical
interpreting: relationships with patients and providers
- Field experience: how to deal
with difficult situations in real life
- The most important qualities a
competent medical interpreter should have
